October 2010 | Jacque’s Vintage Inspired Baby Shower

Here’s a very simple and cute idea that was a huge hit at Jacque’s vintage inspired baby shower! Jackie has been craving fresh fruit all throughout her pregnancy, and we were looking for a budget-friendly (and of course cute) way to serve dessert.

We decided that a scoop of raspberry sorbet on a warm summer afternoon would be the perfect dessert to close out the shower!  It not only satisfied Jacque’s taste buds, but it satisfied our desire for something totally cute and awesome-ly budget friendly.  Not wanting to scoop sorbet from a container and have everyone line up to get a cone, we decorated each cone with brown gingham paper and a beautiful pink,  satin bow. We then went to our local hardware store and purchased a plank of birch wood, smoothed down the rough edges, drilled small holes perfect for holding these beautiful sugar cones, and even added a bit of vintage lace trim to match the theme! Topped off with perfectly round pink scoops of raspberry sorbet and voila! Ultra cute, completely adorable and super simple decorative wrappers for plain old sugar cones!

*Don’t have an old school pencil compass?  Download and print the template here, complete with step-by-step instructions.

1 | Gather the following tools and supplies: double-sided tape, scissors,
pencil compass, 4.5-inch square piece of decorative paper and a sugar cone.

2 | Place the foot of the compass in the bottom-left corner of the paper and extend the compass 4-inches.
Draw a curve from the top-left edge of the paper to the bottom-right edge of the paper.

3 | Cut along the curve.

4 | Place 3 pieces of double-sided tape along one edge of the paper cut-out.  Be sure to adhere
the tape to the backside of the paper, and not on the decorative side, which will be exposed.

5 | Wrap tightly around the sugar cone.

6 | Attach a bow, top it off with a big scoop (or a couple) of your favorite ice cream or
homemade gelato, and display in a beautiful birch wood plank drilled with small holes.
